:: NON-TELEVISION DEBUT :: [Mar. 14th, 2009|09:25 am]
[Tags|]

So airing soon will be the television show I was called to audition for.
I would like to share a couple of my feelings about this. As soon as the call came in from a representative of Juma Entertainment for the television channel A&E I was immediately hesitant. I kept thinking "I am not ready for this!" and "I would just make a fool of myself". So I shrugged it off and told her I was not interested. Then I told my coworkers about it and they called me crazy for turning it down. I sat on the idea for a few days and then decided that i should go for it. I figured.... why the hell not. Who knows if an opportunity like this would EVER come again. If I make a fool of myself it would only be my own doing and I'd deserve it at that point.
So I gave a call back to the representative and told her that I was interested and asked what i needed to do. She said that even though SHE hand selected me I still needed to get approval by the executives and I needed to do an audition tape.
Her requirements were as follows: Answer 20 predetermined questions, make the video 4-7 minutes long, and be SURE to film it all in the shop I work at.
After my first take of the video I quickly realized how IMPOSSIBLE it was for me to answer these 20 questions in 4-7 minutes. I was SPEED talking and it was still a 22 minute interview. I did a couple of takes, so much that my responses began to read very robotic and less enthusiastic.
In order to answer all the questions it ended up being on three different video files, so I took it home to edit them all together to put them on a DVD. As soon as i got home I found that two of the video files were corrupt, not only that but I realized that I did not have adequate lighting on my face and it was very BORING to watch. So I went back to the shop and shot it again with better lighting afterhours.
Much to my dismay, when I got home, even still 1 of the video files were corrupt. I was SO tired of doing and redoing and redoing this 20 minute thing that i just said FUCK IT!!! And I filmed it at home.
I'll betcha that was the nail in the coffin. Especially since she said that the shop filming was a mandatory. I was so sick of it by that point I just didn't even WANT to do it anymore.
Needless to say, I got an email a week after I mailed out my DVD audition tape saying that they went with someone else.
Yeah, I was a little hurt at first, but I broke the rules, so it was ultimately MY fault.

Now, I was in touch with one of Thomas Pendleton's assistants (Thomas is an artist that is headlining this show) and he told me of all the hell and havoc that ensued on the filming tour. I gotta say that I am glad that I wasn't a part of THAT, although it surely would have been one hell of an experience nonetheless. Hehe.

Who knows, maybe I'll watch the show and be GLAD that it wasn't meant to be for me. Or better yet, it'll be a killer show and they'll consider me for season 2.

The bottom line is... THEY called ME. Which makes me feel good to begin with.
Good luck to those involved in the show, and I can't wait to see the show when it airs next month!

So a lot is going on right now.

For one let me update you on my last entry.
All in all they went with another female artist for the show. I know of who it might be and I can't compete with her, she's phenomenal times a billion! I am only honored to be considered for the position as THEY called ME, so HAH! Eat that! (yummy! hehe)

Two of my really good friends are in the hospital right now with SEVERE injuries from a TERRIBLE motorcycle accident. Initially they didn't forsee a good outcome for one of them but now, although it looks like a rough recovery, it looks like they'll be alright.

I am in Tampa Florida at this exact moment in time and I feel so terribly horrible for deserting my friends in Ohio. Even though they won't be getting visitors for a couple days/weeks I still feel like I am abandoning them. I can't stop thinking about them. I feel so horrible.

Regardless. I finished my first day here in Tampa with a bang. The shop here is totally great. Everyone I am working with is incredible. And it looks like they're gonna keep me really busy the whole time I am here. AWESOME!

Anyway. For what it's worth. I love you all. Life is so precious. Cherish every single morsel of your being. Cherish every single bit of your friendships. Don't be afraid of being rid of excess baggage.

I just realized that it's been about a year since I have posted any of my tattoo work in my journal here so I figured it was a good time to post a pretty pig piece I started on my buddy Lee yesterday.

Pardon the seams, as this was a rib-to-rib piece and wrapped around a rather large belly, so it was impossible to get it all in one photo.

I recently integrated a NEW tattoo gallery into my site. So CHECK IT OUT!

Clients of mine can sign up and post their own photos of work I have done on them into my client gallery and upload photos of other work they might have for their user profile.

:: SCAMMED :: [Mar. 14th, 2007|08:43 am]

[Mood |Entertained]

So yesterday I took a call at the tattoo shop I work at.
Summary: A local radio station trying to con me into speaking badly about one of my coworkers, more specifically trying to get me to say that he scams people out of money.

The piercer answered the phone and when he couldn't answer the guys questions he handed the phone to me.

[this is to the best of my memory as word for word as I could recall]

ME: Hello, this is Blue, i am one of the artists here. I hear you have some unanswered questions?

Him: Yes, I have been wanting to go to JayJay to get some of my work finished that he had already started but now I want to get this Kanji. The other guy who answered the phone says JayJay won't be in until Thursday and I want to get this done asap.

Me: Okay

Him: ...but I am a little confused and irritated because he quoted me a price that i think is absolutely absurd and i wanted to get a second opinion on it from someone he works with.

Me: What were you looking to get?

Him: All I want is a kanji that's 3"x3" and he quoted me $180!!!! Now TELL ME you think that's a total scam!!!

Me: Well honestly... each artist prices their work differently. They price it individually depending on what they think their time is worth.

Him: What is YOUR time worth for this kanji?

Me: Well I don't know all the specifics. Like how complex the kanji is or... [he cuts me off]

Him: It's just a kanji. Like.... imagine a kanji. There you go.

Me: Sir, there are THOUSANDS of kanji characters, some are ridiculously simplex and some of them are highly complexed.

Him: Okay, go look it up right now. The kanji is "DREAM".

ME: [googling] You're lucky, I do happen to be sitting at my computer right now.

Him: I'm lucky?

Me: Yes, so we can have a fairly quick resolve right now... Okay, I see it.

Him: Yeah, see? It's lame, all I want is just a solid black...

Me: Well it also depends on how thick or thin you get it, and if you have any kind of styling like a "brushstroke" effect... [cuts me off]

Him: [impatient sounding] Just the thinnest... Actually, quote me on what it would cost for a think one and for a thin one.

Me: [pissy and just wanting to be rid of this pushy rude asshole] I'd say just as a basic, unstyled kanji of that size it'll be between $100-150.

Him: Okay, so you're saying he's scamming me. And I want to make sure he's not to continue scamming other people....

Me: NO, I didn't say he's scammi....

Him: Thank you! Listen to [blah blah blah] radio station tomorrow, you might hear yourself on the radio [*click*].

I wish I had listened to the station name more closely, but he was so interruptive and fast-talking that he was not clear at all.

The bottom line is ALL ARTISTS PRICE THEIR WORK DIFFERENTLY and he was trying to get me to say that JayJay scams people, which I wouldn't do due to that precise reason.

Maybe JayJay got irritated by this guy and priced it high because he didn't want to do the work for this pushy person. I have personally witnessed tons of old-breed artists do it ALL the time, pricing things they don't want to do highly. To be fair I suppose some of the newer artists do it too but i have never witnessed it.

Did I tell you Toledo was lame? Or did I tell you Toledo was lame?
I was more impressed by the radio cons back home in Fort Lauderdale/Miami.

Back to Ohio after an extended trip
down to Orlando and Fort Lauderdale.

I said I'd bring the sun and surprisingly enough... I did. It was 9ยบ when we flew back in to Detroit. But since then it's been high teens to low 20's. Snowing nearly nonstop, but the sun is peaking out to an extent that I believe is totally unnatural for this time of year and this type of weather. Since I no longer "WORK" in Ohio I never have to go out of the house and do a lot of my other work online until I fly oout for my tattooing gigs.

No photos from the Marked For Life Tattoo Convention in Orlando yet, but I will post em as soon as they're ready.

I am still in Florida!
Atom and I both extended our stay in Florida for another week.
So now we get to do more things, get out to see more sights, hang out with more people, AND stay for the Gold Coast Tattoo expo this coming weekend. (and stay away from the coldand snow in Ohio a bit longer)

I am still tattooing all through this week, and since it was a last minute decision to stay I have a ton of available appointment time. time to easily get out and about, or to stay in and tattoo. So gimme a buzz if you have my number.

I also just got myself a new laptop, so I can be more easily in touch while I am away from home and keep more things up to date.

I will also be at the Gold Coast tattoo expo this weekend...
We have also reserved a booth in Tampa at the end of March.

Here we go again!

I had a little less time to prepare for this trip as I never promote or book anything like this until I have solid flight information which guarantees the trip. But it's all solid now, and I'll be back again.

This time in the middle of the trip a few of us are going to and participating in the all-female artist tattoo convention in Orlando called "Marked for Life". I am QUITE excited as this will be my first convention. I've attended a few already so I at least kinda know what to expect.

ANOTHER big piece of news for this trip is that ADAM will be flying down for the last few days to join me in Florida. Jan 19-23 to be exact. Everyone who saw me last trip knows ALLL about Adam as i just couldn't stop talking about him, now they get to meet him! And I get to be spared a few days of agony without him. Not that the trip to Florida is agony, as it CERTAINLY is NOT, but it is agonizing being away from the love of my life :o).

Allergy levels in Ohio are at an all-time high, and I have been sufferign worse that i have been continuously been suffering from them for the past 14 months. My last trip toFlorida offered a WONDERFUL relief from these allergies for the first time in 13 motnhs at that time, so I am looking forward to another time for relief.

Nothing else exciting has been happening since my last post, so I am sorry that I don't have much to update from that. But I will have more soon from my trip to Florida.

Copied from my myspace blog:
so the new shop is great....lotsa really good and talented artists are here everyday....theres one though that stands above the others....SAM....this kid not onl;y is the best artist ive ever seen but he is old too.....and we all know the old folks need to be respected and all that jazz...but damn.....that SAM guy is awesome!!!!!!!!!

::EDIT::
Yes, it's true. I got ready for the fetish party at the shop last night and left myself logged in when I darked out the door, and dear 'ol Sam decided to have a little fun with my open and vulnerable account.

But to the trained eye and true EvilLittleBlue friend, you would know that I have a Times New Roman phobia and would never make a post in that wretched font. Hehe.

So since he's already made this blog post for me I guess I might as well add to it a bit.

My visit in Florida so far has been really really great.

Yesterday was my birthday. Thanks to those who wished me a happy one.
I worked.     yippee

I am 21 again again again again again and again.
(sshoosh, quit trying to do the math in your head)

Look what Dani made me for my birthday!

Sorry D, I hotlinked, I will DL it to my own server when I actually have some time off this weekend.

We have a new manager.
He's a dickhead. Well, he's getting slightly better as time goes on, but he still sucks ass. He royally pissed me off yesterday and I got in his face. A few minutes later my boss comes flying into the shop and yanks me into his office. I thought for sure I was getting fired, but he told me i was 100% in the right for what I said to him. Whew. It's nice to feel that my bosses are not so ANTI against us measley little artists who line his pockets with gold.

Oh yeah... and I got a raise!

While I was tattooing a black&gray lotus flower in the middle of a girl's cleavage my boss burst into the room with a massive choc/chip cookie lit with blue candles singing "Happy Birthday To Blue...". Shame I don't like cookies LOL. But the thought was nice.

I would have put this post under the tattoo filter and spoke a little bit more freely about the new manager dude, but I wanted to show off Dani's picture, hehe.
